Generic USB 2.0 10/100M Ethernet * Adaptor * on (Mac) OS X 10.7 Lion

Before you bash me for writing "adaptor", I just kept the name which is listed when you launch
system_profiler SPUSBDataType .

USB 2.0 10/100M Ethernet Adaptor:

              BSD Name: en3
              Product ID: 0x9700
              Vendor ID: 0x0fe6
              Version: 1.01
              Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
              Location ID: 0xfa130000 / 6
              Current Available (mA): 500
              Current Required (mA): 120

I hope others can reach to this blog with the query above :)

So after digging the internet and have found nothing, I actually found the CD which came together with the USB adapter. I'm uploading the Mac folder from it here just in case you need it too.

Enjoy.

  1. I deal with the same issue on my mac mini with a generic usb to lan adapter. Low speeds and on system profiler it seems like it is a USB 1.0 compatible adapter. Not luck on googling either. I hope an expert has an answer! :-(

  2. Thanks a lot!! You helped me solve the problem with my girlfriends macbook air. Bought the adapter of amazon, and the stupid driver came on a small disc, not compatible with the SuperDrive. Found your post, and 3 min and a reboot later the problem was solved.

  27. Hi,
It just doesnt work on my late 2012 retina macbook 13". Anyone has a solution? Tried the newer and the older drivers too, but it just doesnt work and it makes me crazy...

    ReplyDelete
  28. If the driver didn't work, please recheck your hardware and make sure your USB Ethernet Adapter has the same Product ID: 0x9700 and Vendor ID: 0x0fe6, as mentioned above.
    Please follow this steps:
    - Plug your USB Ethernet Adapter into your Mac USB port.
    - Click the little Apple logo on the upper left corner and then "About this Mac" from the drop down menu click "more info" and the System Profiler will open.
    - On left menu, select Hardware >USB >USB High-speed bus and you can see your USB Ethernet Adapter Product ID & Vendor ID.
If your USB Ethernet Adapter has different Product ID or Vendor ID, you may need different driver.

    Install the driver.

Open a Terminal and run: sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1"

Reboot, connect the adapter, the ethernet dongle should work now.
